Autism is a lifelong condition, which affects social interaction, communication and imagination or empathy.
The spectrum is very wide and includes those with Aspergers Syndrome who may well communicate verbally, can attend main stream school or work with appropriate support and those at the other end of the spectrum who may have severe learning difficulties some physical impairment and have no speach or recognisable communication.
Many people have difficulty understanding social rules and find it very difficult to make friends. Extremely high anxiety is a common symptom and can lead to very challenging and sometimes apparently aggressive behaviour, resulting in exclusion from many everyday situations.
Resources for Autism provides practical services for all ages and at all points of the spectrum. We aim to bridge gaps in provision and to help achieve a society where people on the spectrum and their carers are valued and supported and can participate to their full potential as equal citizens.
We do this by offering specialist play and youth clubs for those aged 8 to 19, providing fun and respite; adult art and social groups; music and art therapy and a Reach Out service of trained volunteers offering an extra pair of hands for families.
