Three year old Maleah was born with a genetic disorder that causes her bones to break with no apparent cause. Since birth she has suffered nine breaks. Action For Kids bought a new powered wheelchair for Maleah which is especially designed for very young children and gives her independence.
Maleah absolutely loves the freedom her new equipment has given her and is very protective of her wheelchair, even telling her mum to ‘be careful' when it is loaded in and out of the car.
Her mum says Action For Kids "saved Maleah's sanity - without the wheelchair she would be dragging herself round on the floor, frustrated at being restricted." Maleah loves showing off in her new chair and can even do a few tricks!
"As a mother, I want to say a special thank you. It was heartbreaking to see my little girl get left out of playing with her friends because she could not keep up. You have opened up a whole new world for her that would otherwise drift further and further away. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you." - Maleah's mum
Action For Kids provides work related learning and office experience for young people with physical learning and difficulties aged 14 – 26. Students come to our head office to do real work in a real workplace. We also offer an Outreach program, teaching work related learning in special needs and mainstream schools.
