Photography can do much to raise our awareness in the environment, says one of the judges of The Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2008.
Norbert Rosing, a wildlife photographer, told the press at the media preview last Thursday that photography is a 'powerful tool' that can be an agent of change – its ability to capture a moment means that it can record changes in a landscape that won't otherwise be told.
Rosing, well-known for his ongoing project, The World of the Polar Bear, has published 10 books, and he has been a regular contributor to National Geographic and similar magazines.
The event saw Steve Winter, a regular National Geographic contributor, announced as Wildlife Photographer of the Year.
Ten months spent tracking extremely rare snow leopards in isolated areas of northern India and Pakistan have reaped rewards for the American photographer, who emerged as the winner on 29th October in a ceremony at London's Natural History Museum.
