Sir Alex Ferguson the king of football managers

Salute Sir Alex Ferguson the king of managers

Sir Alex Ferguson is irascible; suffers fools with total disdain and is not beyond the odd bit of gamesmanship, but what no one can dispute is that he is, without doubt, the greatest club manager the world has ever known.

An exaggerated claim, some would claim, when there are such contenders as Sir Matt Busby, Bob Paisley, Joe Fagan, Bill Shankly and many more but TWENTY FIVE major trophies since 1990 speak for themselves, including the THIRD successive Premiership title clinched with their goalless draw against Arsenal at Old Trafford in front of their own fans.

It does not end there for, apart from winning the World Club Championship earlier in the season and the Carling Cup mid term, his troops are now preparing to face Barcelona in the final of the European Champions League a week on Wednesday and winning in Rome would give Fergie back-to-back European Cups as well.

Since he arrived from a successful stint at Aberdeen, where he upset the Old Firm act of Rangers and Celtic, he has won a stunning 11 League titles; Five FA Cups, Two Champions League; One European Cup Winners' Cup; Three League Cups; One UEFA Super Cup; One Intercontinental Cup and one Club World Cup.

This was Manchester United's 18th title in all, equalling the long standing Liverpool record – something Ferguson targeted on his arrival at Old Trafford.

But what is really scary is that Fergie is enjoying it so much that he reckons, if his health holds out, he will carry on for another five years.

No wonder Chelsea are looking for a new manager; Arsene Wenger is casting covetous eyes on Real Madrid after four years without a trophy and Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is so cross he won't even give Fergie credit for his latest success!
