Rugby unites to help our heroes
More than fifty thousand rugby supporters filled Twickenham at the weekend in tribute to injured British service men and women and to those that have lost their lives fighting for our country.
The match was played in the true spirit of the game - hard-fought but extremely good natured.
Martin Johnson, Will Greenwood and Lawrence Dallaglio were greeted with their own heroes welcome, but the loudest cheer was for the video that was played to remind us all why we were there.
It was a humbling experience to witness such a special event in a stadium that is usually like a cauldron and to stand in a crowd that is normally so partisan.
The generosity of all those involved should be noted - the RFU allowed the use of rugby headquarters without charge, and most of the suppliers donated all profits to the cause.
A total of more than one million pounds was raised which will help to fund new rehabilitation facilites for injured soldiers at Headley Court in Surrey, and a similar facility in Edgbaston.
The funds are still rising as more and more people read about the quality of the event - you can make your contribution at http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/donations.html
