Push The Button - Firefighters pop video

They can usually be found fighting fires, now a fire brigade from Staffordshire has stepped into the spotlight with a pop video to encourage people to test their smoke alarms - and save lives.

It's part of Staffordshire Fire and  Rescue Service's Push the Button campaign which is urging people to remember that testing a smoke alarm needs to become part of a weekly routine.

Today is this year's Push the Button Day when the brigade is calling on all  residents to test their smoke alarms, as well as pledging to test them every week after that.

Nine out of 10 people in Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent have smoke alarms fitted in their homes, but seven out of ten admit to not testing them.

"A smoke alarm could save your family's lives - if it works," a spokesman says. "Our local teams will be out promoting our message across the county on October 13th in shopping centres, town squares, supermarkets and at some of our brand new community fire stations."
