Pensioner 84 survives four days trapped in well shaft in Canada

It just goes to prove how far the will to survive will sustain you. A pensioner is recovering after four days trapped in a well shaft on Canada's Pacific Coast.

Eighty-four-year-old Bob Bennett escaped with only minor injuries following his ordeal  at the remote former mine site at Benson Lake, where he lives alone on northern Vancouver Island.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police confirmed that a search dog located the elderly man after a friend became concerned that he had not heard from him in several days.

It said Mr Bennett entered the eight-foot deep well shaft while searching for a water source, before becoming trapped.

Corporal Michelle LeBrun: "Mr Bennett, at 84 years old, shows age means nothing when you have the will to survive."
