Las Vegas police officer survives after bullet hits his badge

A police officer in North Las Vegas can thank his lucky stars after a bullet fired at him hit his police badge instead, effectively saving his life.

The officer is reported to have suffered only minor injuries in the weekend incident, which happened when he responded to a call.

Local media in Las Vegas have reported that the 31-year-old was struck while attempting to stop someone believed to be behaving suspiciously near the city's Deer Springs and McCarran Street.

The officer's police colleagues immediately began a search for the suspect, thought to have been hit himself after an exchange of gunfire.

The police employee has not been named, but must be feeling incredibly lucky that the badge protected him so well.
