Jack the Cat is found safe seven weeks after going missing at JFK Airport in New York

He was missing for seven long weeks, but a cat which escaped from its carrying case ahead of a flight from New York to California has been found alive.

Owner Karen Pascoe was due to to take the cream-coloured long-haired cat, named Jack, and another cat on an American Airlines flight when he disappeared at John F Kennedy airport.

American Airlines said it was happy to announce that the AWOL moggy had been found at JFK airport. It explained its team of airport employees had been focused on the search effort since Jack escaped on August 25th and intend to fly the cat home when he is fully recovered.

"Jack was found in the customs room and was immediately taken by team members to a local veterinarian," a spokesperson said. "As Jack has been on his own for two months, we have now learned that he will need to remain in the care of a veterinarian for an additional period.  Ms. Pascoe has been advised of these developments, and Jack will not be able to travel at this time due to the care and treatment he is receiving."
