How green is this Tee
The t-shirt is probably the one garment that through design can make a bold statement, where the wearer can be anyone from political activist to style icon.
The impact of t-shirt design is that it can be a flag for human rights yet it also is a football supporter's pride or just be canvas for art.
However, what statement or impact can a t-shirt have where its cool factor is more in its production process before design? New York-based Anvil Knitwear, a socially and environmentally responsible manufacturer of sportswear and accessories, has created a t-shirt that uses less energy and water during production, has a net-zero carbon footprint and is made from 69% pre-consumer recycled cotton.
Anthony Corsano, the company's ceo said: ""when you make a t-shirt – or any other product – you use electricity, fuel and water, and you create waste. Our recycled tee is an innovative, affordable product that has less impact on the environment, reuses leftover materials that most apparel makers see as waste, and avoids the dyeing process saving significant amounts of energy and resources".
Anvil was recently ranked the world's sixth-largest organic program and the largest domestic purchaser of U.S.-grown certified organic cotton.
Corsano added that the AnvilRecycled(TM) tee was a result from an ongoing commitment to reducing energy and waste at operations that inspired the company to developing a use for textile cuttings which would usually be disposed of in the manufacturing process or sold as scrap.
