Green economy for Green Ireland - Irish Wind Energy Association(IWEA)
The Irish Wind Energy Association(IWEA) launched Ireland's first major study into employment opportunities from the green economy on Global Wind Day, June 15.
Named as the ‘Jobs and Investment in Irish Wind Energy Study' is to be compiled on the opportunities arising in the industry island-wide, the joint IWEA and Deloitte report, identifies billions of Euros of investment.
Eamon Ryan, Irish energy minister, said: "This report is evidence of the huge work that is being carried out to progress the development of Ireland's wind energy sector.
Jobs in construction and development of wind energy projects across Ireland, north and south, will involve approximately €14.75billion of investment - €5.1billion of this could be retained in the Irish economy.
Ryan added that: "the IWEA's assessment that wind energy can become a significant employer here in Ireland is absolutely correct ... already, 12% of our electricity is derived from renewables with over 1000MW of wind connected".
