Barry Deley wins Global BC lottery live on air
They thought were simply announcing the winner of a live lottery. So imagine the surprise of two TV news anchors who found themselves congratulating their colleague live on air when his winning ticket was picked.
The drama unfolded on Global BC in Canada as the presenting duo announced the winner of the top prize - a choice between a 2.5 Canadian dollar property or $2m in cash.
Little did they know that the winner would be one of their own team - sports reporter Barry Deley. The shock was clear for viewers to see as it became clear that they knew the lucky recipient. And sure enough, a quick on air call to Barry confirmed it was indeed him.
The sports journalist from Port Moody, British Columbia, was shopping for groceries in a supermarket when they dropped the bombshell news. He gasped and added: "It's unbelievable. It's amazing... You know people are going to think this is kind of fishy, don't ya?"
His laughing colleagues assured him not to worry - everything was fine and above order. Barry explained that his family had long supported the children's hospital lottery after his own daughter had become ill.
