There is no denying that the travel industry has been significantly impacted by the credit crunch and sharp decline of traffic for the past year. All tourism destinations have been affected by the slump.
However much can be learned from Germany, which holds the Top Five performing cities in Europe.
Cologne, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Munich and Berlin charted the least fall in occupancy compared to other destinations, which decreases range from only -6.6% to -14.0%.
The findings were produced by the May 2009 edition of the European Hotel Review, published by STR Global, a provider of market information to the world's hotel industry.
The review provides a detailed analysis of hotel performance in terms of occupancy, average daily rate and RevPAR at the global, national and market levels for the year-to-May 2009.
