British environmentalist, David de Rothschild, will embark on "Plastiki Voyage" – a 7,500-mile journey from San Francisco to Sydney in a boat made of plastic bottles – to raise awareness of waste management issues.

“I think that the most important thing is not to make plastic the enemy, but to really reassess how we use, dispose, and reuse it. It comes down to the old cliché of stopping to think before you buy,” said de Rothchild in an interview with National Geographic.

The expedition will commence in March 2009.

De Rothschild is founder of Adventure Ecology, an organization and community forum which mission is to inform and educate the public about ecology preservation, through adventurous expeditions to environmentally sensitive regions.

He will be navigating through a floating landfill located between California and Hawaii notoriously known as the "Eastern Pacific Garbage Patch."

It is reported to be twice the size of Texas.
