Earth Lunch Hour - Using your lunch break to help the planet
It's a chance to share your lunch break not only with your colleagues but the rest of the world – and do something to benefit the planet.
Earth Lunch Hour will start in Japan at 11 am on October 6, sweep through Asia, India, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Central America, North America, and Oceania, and end in Japan at 11 am on October 7.
It's essentially a one-day event broadcast for 24 hours, connecting Panasonic plants worldwide and general participants via Ustream and Twitter, with Japan's Panasonic Centre in Tokyo as the main venue.
This is a day when being eco-friendly will be made a reality for people all around the world, eating lunch at the office or at home. As well as broadcasting or watching on Ustream, they can join the 24-hour event by following @EarthLunchHour on Twitter.
"We usually eat lunch without a second thought," explain the organisers. "Precisely because it's part of our normal routine, we should use lunchtime to do a little good for the Earth.
Having the courage to take that first step is sure to bring about major changes. Let's try to be more environmentally friendly using our own ideas, from choice of ingredients to resourcefulness in cooking and clearing up."
Over lunch, workers in each region can share their ideas on eco-friendly foods and ways to take green action. They can reveal green recipes for not wasting ingredients and pass on ideas for making good use of leftovers - the world is literally their oyster.
