Beauty Stared Back

Sometimes, it happens that one takes Beauty straight in the face without any warning. Our planet offers us so many wonders that it is difficult to name them all; however, when one expects it the least, one can be allowed to witness such majesty that one forgets to breathe for a few seconds.

Therefore, as the sun was high in the sky and raced the clouds here and there, I went for a drive with my better half. It is a lovely habit to go round, stare at nice and cosy houses; it is refreshing and relaxing to see how people are doing... yet, it might happen that the car gets an urge of its own, and leads us to a hunter road... However, hunts do no begin before autumn, so it is no big deal to roll onto extremely chaotic ways through the woods.

It is when it happened... the encounter of pure Beauty that takes your breath away... the King of the forest (actually, it was probably the Queen). She stood there, by the path and as the car slowed down, she had walked in front of us... both afraid and curious... she then trotted to the other side and into the forest, pausing regularly so we could have a good look at her. Who was she... the Queen of the forest of course... She was an Elk.

Hours later, I still could not believe it and my eyes were barely keeping the tears inside. Wildlife gives me chills... I stared at her and Beauty stared back... She made my day.

Hej Meike, Email college and Open University have libraries free to consult too, which helps digging anything in debt, but as you said... time is also a big factor that restrain us from learning as much as we would like. Little by little remains possible though and that is what matters.

I look back sometimes and wish I still had the time to learn things properly. There is still so much more to know ... The internet makes it easy to pick up bits and pieces on all sorts of subjects. It also makes it possible to research these in depth, but I hardly ever do. Went to a very good event at the Southbank on Thursday. Brian Eno and John Hassell invited the audience to witness part of a conversation they have been holding for 30 years. Very enlightening - I am envious. I am luc

Indeed, and today I learned how to be ruthless while editing my short stories. What about you? What did you learn today?

I so agree with you Claire. As a child and teenagre i think SO much depends on how inspiring your teachers are ... and mine were not. I hated History for example. And now i enjoy nothing more than seeing Andrew Marr's history programmes on TV. And one of my mottos is never stop learning... you should learn something new every day - no matter what the format is.
