Far be it for us here at Optimist World to find humour in crime, but we had to smile when we heard how the owners of a cat with a sock fetish have been forced to leaflet their neighbours to see if they are missing any.

One-year-old Henry stands accused of stealing at least 57 socks from neighbouring properties in Loughborough.  But no one is quite sure whether the 'cat burglar' removes them from washing lines or people's houses.

Witnesses say he's often been spotted on a wall near his home with random socks in his mouth, but his exasperated owner Louise Brandon explains that she has so far struggled to reunite the socks with their rightful owners.

"There just seems to this endless supply of neighbourhood socks coming in and we don't know where they're coming from," Louise says.
