Beyond Sport unveil the contenders for the 2009 awards
Britain figures prominently amongst the contenders for the prestigious first Beyond Sport Awards for 2009 to be presented in London this summer.
Beyond Sport, the global initiative which seeks to unearth, celebrate and support the world's most inspirational sports projects, people and organisations that drive positive change through sport, has unveiled the worldwide shortlist
By reaching this stage of the judging process, each shortlisted project will receive a personal invitation to attend the Beyond Sport Summit to be held on July 7-9 in London.
Thanks to the unique support and goodwill of Beyond Sport's Global Partner, Virgin Atlantic, representatives from these initiatives will be flown from all over world to the Summit in London.
This unprecedented, invite-only Summit will be led by influential figures including Archbishop Desmond Tutu; Sir Richard Branson, President of Virgin Atlantic; Prince Faisal Al Hussein of Jordan; Boris Johnson, Mayor of London and Wilfred Lemke, United Nations Special Advisor to the Secretary General.
The Awards winners, to be selected by the panel of Beyond Sport Ambassadors chaired by former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, will be announced on the final day of the Summit. The successful projects in the six Beyond Sport Foundation Awards will receive £10,000 each and a package of support.
