In 2005 the founders of Enable Ethiopia visited the Simien Mountains National Park, in northern Ethiopia, as part of a sponsored trek and raised funds for a health post and helped the villagers with the construction during their trip.
The trekking group saw the need to contribute further to this remote region.
They listened to the villagers' needs and elected to build a clean water point for Ambaras. In September 2006 the fundraising team founded Enable Ethiopia, a UK registered charity.
Enable Ethiopia is managed entirely by unpaid volunteers.
CLEAN WATER PROGRAM. We need to raise funds now to allow the water program to reach as many people as possible, as quickly as possible. The water points are built by the local population. The local families then pay a very small monthly charge to use the water point, which creates a maintenance fund to ensure the water point is sustainable.
