Helping Haiti Charity single Everybody Hurts tops chart

Helping Haiti, the fundraising single featuring stars such as Robbie Williams, Cheryl Cole and Leona Lewis, has hit number one after selling nearly half a million copies in a week.

Funds raised from the cover of REM's Everybody Hurts will help earthquake survivors to the delight of the celebrities who gave their support.

"There are still so many in Haiti that need our help so please keep giving," said Leona. Alexandra Burke, who flew to the capital Port-au-Prince last week to see the devastation for herself, rejoiced: "I've seen where this money will go and that it will really make a difference and help those who need it."

Alexandra met survivors of the quake - including Kiki Joachin, seven, plucked from the rubble after days. His photo features on the single's cover.

Simon Cowell, who organised the charity song along with The Sun newspaper, described the first-week sales of 453,000 as "an incredible achievement" and added: "I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who has bought the single and helped to support this cause."

To donate to the charity, log on to www.facingtheworld.net or call 0207 352 0052. Half the proceeds from the single will go to the Disasters Emergency Committee and half to The Sun's Helping Haiti Appeal. All cash to The Sun's Helping Haiti Appeal will go directly to a charitable fund set up by the Charities Aid Foundation (registered charity number 268369). All money will go to charities helping Haiti earthquake victims.
