Scandinavian airline SAS hosts first gay wedding in the air
Scandinavan airline SAS says it's planning to host the world's first same-sex wedding in the air. On a flight from Stockholm to New York it says it will wed one loving couple, making it one of the world's first gay-themed flights.
It's named the day - December 6, onboard SK903 from Stockholm to New York. It plans to turn one of its lounges into a wedding lounge before departure and on board it will transform its business class cabin into an exclusive wedding cabin.
A wedding reception will follow, including a full menu, cake and celebrations all theway to New York. One lucky couple will win an exclusive wedding and honeymoon package that includes business class flights with SAS to New York, three nights at one of New York's most luxurious hotels and then flights to Los Angeles to enjoy another three nights in West Hollywood.
To find the couple the airline, which is co-owned by the governments of Sweden, Denmark and Norway, has launched a social media campaign called Love is in the air. It's encouraging couples to set up a profile and compete for votes.
"Airlines, including SAS, have organised weddings onboard flights for decades, but we would be the first in the world to organise a same-sex wedding in the air," said Robin Kamark, Chief Commercial Officer of SAS. "SAS is the national airline of three of the world's most liberal and progressive countries in the world, especially when it comes to LGBT rights, so we feel this is a natural celebration of love."
