Psychic octopus Paul predicts Spain to beat Holland in World Cup final
If you can't wait to find out who wins Sunday's World Cup final in South Africa, help is at hand. An octopus credited with psychic powers is being called upon to predict who will be crowned winner.
The Sea Life Aquarium in the western German city of Oberhausen is proud of its star attraction who has – believe it or not - correctly forecast every World Cup game involving the national team.
Paul, as he's been named, will have to choose between Spain and the Netherlands. His less than scientific but apparently winning method is to choose a mussel from one of two boxes bearing the flags of the competing nations.
The two-year-old cephalopod octopus has become an international celebrity in his native country and his prognosis ahead of Wednesday's World Cup semi-final was broadcast live around the world. He correctly predicted all of Germany's World Cup games, including a shock defeat by Serbia in the group stages and the ousting by Spain.
Today the unlikely psychic will also be asked to tip the winner of Saturday's Germany-Uruguay match for third place. Sea Life's Tanja Munzig said: "Paul has proven his mettle so far."
