Inspirational student Ben Rocket aims to break record for Lands End to John O Groats cycle ride

Let's hope he lives up to his name...Ben Rockett has taken on the impressive challenge of setting the new record of cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats and back again.

The postgraduate student from the University of Bath is currently cycling the 1,781 miles - and aims to do it in just six days with his support team of fellow students and close friends.

Ben aims to beat the current record set by Bobby Brown in April 2000 who achieved a time of six days and 20 hours. He is currently studying a PhD in Education researching children's mental health and animal assisted therapy.

One of Ben's lecturers Dr Eric Anderson said: "There is only one phrase to describe Ben Rockett and that is ‘absolutely driven', in everything he does especially his postgraduate studies. His crazy idea of cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats is an example of that."

Ben is determined to get his message across. His blog reads: "With enough effort and determination, we are all capable of achieving exceptional feats. Sometimes people just need a little extra encouragement."

He is raising money for Cardiac Risk in the Young, a charity that helps raise awareness of cardiac arrest by encouraging young people to have heart screening. The charity also researches into the symptoms and treatment of cardiac arrest.
