Inspirational former model launches The Katie Piper Foundation to support burns survivors

She is an absolute inspiration - a former model who has transformed her life with astonishing bravery after her ex-boyfriend threw acid in her face, causing her severe facial disfigurement.

Now Katie Piper has officially launched a new foundation to make a difference to burns survivors, with none other than Simon Cowell as its patron.

Katie feels she's been extremely fortunate with the life-changing treatment and support she received after her attack. So much so that she set up The Katie Piper Foundation to improve rehabilitation facilities for burns survivors while providing a network of support and information on burns, scars and treatment, both medical and non-medical.

"One of the hardest things about being disfigured is getting over how other people view or react to you,"  Katie explained. "If together we can change that we will take away half the battle that someone like myself would face."

The foundation's vision is to create an advanced burn and scar management and rehabilitation clinic in the UK, accessible to anybody who would benefit from specialised treatments. This will include daily pressure therapy using controlled, standardised and customised care with the help of LPG Endermologie machines, manual massage, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and silicone treatment. The clinic will also be a place where people can learn to overcome the psychological barriers of living with disfigurement and concentrate on rebuilding their livesIt will show people how to look and feel their best again, including professional lessons on camouflage makeup and hair styling as well as a mentorship programme that brings burns survivors together to support each other.

"Katie is one of the most inspiring people I have met," Simon Cowell said. "She is brave, talented and determined and I think what she is doing with the Katie Piper Foundation is incredible."

The charity's trustees include Mr Mohammed Ali Jawad, the reconstruction surgeon who performed pioneering surgery to rebuild Katie's face.
