Honest hotel cleaner Essa Khan in Pakistan hands in £33000 left by guest
It affirms your faith in the goodness of human nature. Certainly, you have to admire the honesty of a hotel cleaner who handed in over £33,000 left by a guest.
The cash, in $100 bills, was discovered by Essa Khan, 51, at the Serena Hotel in Gilgit, Pakistan. It was left behind by a Japanese man, but Essa said: "My duty with the hotel and my family upbringing teaches me nothing else. Times are hard for everyone, but that doesn't mean we should start stealing and taking things which do not belong to us."
He added: "I want people around the world to know that there are many good people in Pakistan - everybody is not a terrorist here."
The cleaner, who earns around 21,000 rupees a month (£150 in British money), has been given an award by the hotel. He's also been invited to visit Punjab governor Salman Taseer for a special ceremony.
