Comedian Tim Vine wins best joke award at Edinburgh Fringe

It's been judged the best joke at this year's Edinburgh Fringe – a rib-tickling honour for comedian Tim Vine who delivered the award-winning one-liner.

"I've just been on a once-in-a-lifetime holiday. I'll tell you what, never again, " Tim joked – and it made the voting public laugh, securing him the accolade.

The award was initially judged by eight comedy critics, who shortlisted 24 jokes after each sitting through an average of 60 performances, totalling 3,600 minutes of comedy material.

It's not the first time Tim Vine has made an impact in Edinburgh. He won the Perrier newcomer award in 1995.  This latest title was awarded by digital TV channel Dave.

Less desirable perhaps is the prize for the festival's worst joke, this year won by Dan Antopolski.  He came up with: "How many Spaniards does it take to change a lightbulb? Juan."  A year ago it was all so different when he won trophy for best one-liner with:

"Hedgehogs - why can't they just share the hedge?"

Think you can do better? - Go on, share your best joke with us below ;-)
