The Prayer for Haiti Classical music stars record charity single
First it was the UK's biggest pop stars who sang in support of the Haiti aid effort. Now Britain's most popular classical music stars are doing their bit.
Julian Lloyd Webber, Aled Jones and Britain's Got Talent winner Paul Potts are among the star names who gave their time freely for fundraising single, The Prayer.
A new all-star version of the song, made famous by Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion, has been recorded for the Disasters Emergency Committee and its work in support of the earthquake survivors. All Angels, Bond, Camilla Kerslake, Rhydian and The Priests contributed to the single, to be released on March 14, along with ITV's Pop Star To Opera Star winner Darius Campbell and the group Blake.
"It's the first time that a number of classical artists have come together, and it's for an immensely important cause," said Blake singer Humphrey Berney.
Project manager Nadia Raibin said: "I've pulled favours left, right and centre, I've begged and borrowed everything and everyone I could think of. The artists have flown in from here, there and everywhere, all at their own expense." She said of the song: "It sounds so beautiful and the general public just need to back it so that we can raise the money that is so needed."
