The victims of the Pakistan floods certainly need every penny of support at the moment -  and The Big Give has launched an emergency fund, doubling public donations to help those most in need.

The online resource – described as ‘the intelligent way for proactive philanthropists to find and support charities' - features over 6,000 charities working all over the world.

It enables people to find new projects to support and make their donation go further with its Double Your Donation challenges. The site also promotes giving to the next generation of philanthropists and leaving a legacy to any charity.

The flooding in Pakistan has swept across a quarter of the country, killing 1,500 and affecting over 20 million. In response, companies and philanthropists have offered to double more than £75,000 in donations to aid charities through The Big Give.

Donors can choose from six charities, including Oxfam and the British RedCross, all fighting to help those most in need. The emergency fund sponsors include Lloyd's Charities Trust (the charitable arm of Lloyd's insurance markets) and Reed Specialist Recruitment, as well as a number of individual donors. Earlier this year, The Big Give emergency fund raised over £150,000 for the Haiti earthquake response.
