He lost his job as a Wall Street lawyer two years ago, but businessman David Arrick wasn't going to take the news lying down. He spotted a gap in the market - making cupcakes more appealing to men. Butch Bakery is selling cupcakes for dudes.
David's cake-making business Butch Bakery specialises in manly cupcakes after market research suggested there was a gap in the market.
"I thought they are all very feminine and pink and a lot of them are frilly with jelly beans and sprinkles," David explains. "I thought I wanted to do something very different, and I decided to do something with a masculine bent to it." He added: "I think that we eat with our eyes first before our stomachs and I think that it's got to be visually appealing, and I wanted something that was going to have an impact from the beginning, right when you see it. The response has been overwhelming."
Butch Bakery now gets orders from all around the world from as far away as Australia. The flavours of cupcakes produced include beer, salted caramel and whisky and, would you believe, banana, peanut butter with crushed bacon.
