Burger King Have It Your Way Foundation scholarships
Fast-food restaurant Burger King's scholars program the Have It Your Way Foundation has awarded over $1m in scholarships to a total of 944 students across North America for the ninth year.
815 high school seniors were awarded $1,000 scholarships. These Burger King scholars were selected based on their grade point average, work experience, financial need, extracurricular activities and community service.
The Have It Your Way Foundation, created in memory of the restaurant's co-founder company-owned James W. McLamore, is a not-for-profit public charity with a focus on making a positive impact in local communities in collaboration with the extended Burger King family.
Additionally, 100 Burger King student employees were awarded $1,000 scholarships and 29 were awarded $5,000 scholarships. These recipients were selected based on their academic achievements, financial need and community involvement.
In addition, they must have worked for the company for at least one year. The $5,000 scholarships were awarded to the top-ranked employees from around the country and are supported by the McLamore Family Foundation.
Scholarship funds come directly from the Have It Your Way Foundation, and franchise Burger King restaurants throughout the country that host a variety of fundraising activities in order to generate monies for scholarships each year.
Scholars Program has awarded a total of 12,720 scholarships representing more than $12.7 million since the program's inception in 2000.
Scholarship awards are intended to help students offset the cost of attending college or a post-secondary vocational/technical school. High school seniors throughout the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada are eligible for the scholarships. www.haveityourwayfoundation.org
