Boris Johnson charged up by environmental friendly G-Wiz

Before becoming Mayor of London Boris Johnson found himself in an environmental-friendly ‘road-rage' experience last year when he discovered that the Department of Transport wanted to ban, via Brussels, as he put it the " cleanest, greenest, sweetest four-wheeled self-propelled invention to hit the London streets since the first horseless carriage arrived at the end of the 19th century" – the G-Wiz electric car.

To the MP of Henley at the time, the British state had deemed the vehicle unsafe in a violent collision after tests and the then Minister for Transport Stephen Ladyman said the vehicle did not conform to EU regulations, calling for the car to be reclassified as a quadricycle.

As an ace test-driver for GQ magazine Johnson's own experience of the G-Wiz refuted with the Government's. He viewed the car being a ‘contraption' to saving the planet that emitted the same amount of carbon as a small dandelion and no less or more dangerous than a bicycle.

G-Wiz AEV (automatic electric vehicle) was launched in London in 2004 by the only retailer of electric cars, GoinGreen. Over 950 G-Wiz electric cars are currently on the road making it the UK's best selling electric car of all time.

Since entering the market, GoinGreen has picked various accolades, including, the ‘Industry Market Leadership' award in 2007 and voted as one of the ‘ Global Top 40 Low Carbon Pioneers' by European Business magazine.

Designed in California and manufactured by Reva Electric Car Company (RECC) in Bangalore, India, from plastic and rubber bands, the G-Wiz has also become the world's best selling EV and London the electric vehicle capital of the world by 2006.

The vehicle is sold in 10 countries around the world (where it is known as Reva) with further countries conducting test marketing.
