The financial services arm of the Co-op www.goodwithmoney.co.uk pridesitself on being 'good with money', only investing companies that comply with their ethical policy.
Since 1992 the Co-operative Bank has turnedaway £700m of loans from companies that do not live up to theirstandards of ethical business.
Now the Co-op has been rewarded for its ethical business practices, winning Business in the Community's www.bitc.org.uk Big Tick award for Impact on Society. Each year the Co-op, launches a campaign fund to lobby government on an issue that has a big impact on our society.
For 2008 the Co-operative Bank and Amnesty International have joined forces to mark the 60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) with a campaign to raise awareness and call for action on human rights issues.
For every £100 customers spend on Co-operative Bank credit and debit cards, the Co-op donates 1.25p to the campaign fund. Past campaigns have included lobbying the Government for a stronger Climate Change Bill, and campaigning for change in international trade justice rules.
