A Sea of Gratitude: Celebrate World Ocean Day
The World Ocean Day in June will be celebrated by campaigners worldwide with a series of events ranging from coral transplantation, seafood-tasting, to a nude photo shoot on a naturist beach in England.
The World Ocean Day was created in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
Although not yet officially backed by the United Nations, an increasing number of countries are marking 8 th June as a day to celebrate the world ocean and people’s connection to the sea.
The Ocean Project, working closely with the World Ocean Network each year, helps to coordinate events and activities with aquariums, zoos, museums, conservation organizations, universities, schools and businesses.
Participating countries are USA, Canada, Costa Rica, England, France, Gibraltar, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Sweden, China, Indonesia, Korea, the Philippines and Australia. Itinerary of the events are published on The Ocean Project website.
