Move over Travolta, eat your heart out Bee Gees... and grab your bus pass Madonna. Disco is getting younger and babies, yes babies, are taking to the dance floor for a new craze that's promising to sweep the nation.
Disco sessions for tiny tots and their parents are the new big thing it seems.
It caught the imagination of families in the United States (where else?) and now it's over here. Baby Loves Disco has already proved so popular that its events are already sold out in London until June. And it's now spreading across the UK.
Billed as an afternoon dance party for kids aged between six months and seven years - and their parents, it features DJs playing feel good tracks which, according to the organisers, are 'guaranteed to get those little booties moving and grooving.'
Baby Loves Disco began three years ago when its co-founder, Philadelphia dancer turned waitress Heather Murphy Monteith, put on her first baby disco party. She says she just wanted to 'something different' for children but its grown beyond all expectations. It quickly spread, mostly by word of mouth rather than an expensive advertising campaign, to more than 22 cities across the United States.
"My favourite feedback comment so far has been one mother telling me that event was a complete release for the whole family," she says. "Baby Loves Disco serves the priorities of the family by refusing to accept that parenting is an isolated experience and strives to create a resonant experience for all in the spirit of sharing music and dance."
