Alzheimers - brisk walks could help your memory

Brisk walks could help your memory

If you've ever struggled to remember things - try remembering to take a brisk fifty minute walk three days a week.

Scientists believe it could be the key to reducing forgetfulness.

Middle-aged patients who were starting to suffer from memory problems stayed sharper if they took moderate exercise, according to a new study. The study, by a team at the University of Melbourne in Australia, is the first to show that it is never too late to gain the protection that exercise can offer.

For six months, the researchers observed 138 patients –  all aged over 50 and apparently at risk from dementia. They concluded that a regular workout may delay the start of full-blown dementia.

The researchers found that by the end of the study those in the exercise group had better scores and could recall more words from a list than those who didn't exercise.
